MISSION

The mission of DIALOG IN THE DARK is to facilitate social inclusion of marginalized people across the world.

Our goal is to:
  • Raise awareness and create tolerance for Otherness in the general public and thereby overcome barriers between “us” and “them”
  • Create jobs for disadvantaged people by turning deficits into potentials and thereby strengthening their self-esteem
We believe that accomplishing our mission will lead to sustainable and significant improvement of marginalized people’s situations throughout the world.

Community Impact

Since its inception in 1988, approximately 5 million visitors have experienced DIALOG IN THE DARK worldwide. Over 5,000 blind and visually impaired people found employment and were empowered through DIALOG IN THE DARK. DIALOG IN THE DARK has succeeded in reaching out to the general public and gained tremendous attention from international media.

In the past two decades, DIALOG IN THE DARK has been responsible for bringing global awareness to the issues of disability, diversity, and tolerance. Thousands of visitors have commented in guest books how moved they were by their experience, and have reflected upon their positive impression and fondness for their guide.

Results of a survey asking visitors about their experiences after 5 years report that 100% remembered the Exhibition by name and recalled who was present with them at the time. In addition, 90% felt increased awareness and sensitivity for people who are blind and visually impaired.

DIALOG IN THE DARK does not focus on the deficits of a disability but promotes and demonstrates the full potential of people with disabilities. It fosters respect, positive attitude, and open communication between the general public and guides of the Exhibition.
